About the Event

The Ben Donohoe Run and Walk for Fun is a non profit charity event. All proceeds from 2008 will be donated to the ACT Eden Monaro Cancer Support Group and Make-A-Wish Australia to provide much needed support to local families in their time of need and make a seriously ill child's wish come true.

This event is organised by Hawker College Sports Administration students in conjunction with the Donohoe family.

The event is held in memory of Ben Donohoe, a young boy who lost his battle with a brain tumour and passed away 2nd August 2005.

About Ben

Ben Donohoe was a special, sports-loving, caring and intelligent 9 year old. He was born in Canberra and lived with his parents and siblings, Robyn and Peter, Luke, Lauren and Kate in Dunlop Australian Capital Territory [ ACT] Australia

Ben was a very active boy who loved playing cricket and soccer. In fact, Ben not only played every imaginable sport that there was to play, but was a naturally gifted sportsman at all of them. His kindness for others was such an inspiration to all his friends and family. Ben loved his family and when he became sick his mother Robyn would often ask him if there was anything she could get for him and he would simply say, just a cuddle. Ben also loved his music and would sing and dance around in his bedroom to the sounds of SHREK, Robbie Williams and Shannon Noll.

Ben attended Latham Primary school and was in Year 4 when he was diagnosed with a brain tumour on the 10th of June 2005.

Despite an operation to remove the tumour and Ben's determination to live, the tumour became too aggressive and Ben passed away on the 2nd August 2005, less than 8 weeks after being diagnosed.

Previous Years

Over the past three years the Ben Donohoe Run and Walk for Fun has raised over $60,000 for the BTA (Brain Tumour Australia) and this money has gone towards finding a cure and preventing other families from going down the same path as the Donohoe's.

The attendance and support from the public is what helps to make this event such a success every year. In the past, both individuals and business community have generously shown their support and we would like to thank everybody who has helped previously as we appreciate everything that you have done!

Extra Information

There will be a sausage sizzle taking place after the event in the finishing area (John Knight Memorial Park) with sausages, steaks and soft drinks available for purchase.

We also have merchandise for the event available this year. Check out our specified section for further product details.
